4. Rockefeller Grant
In 1933 the Rockefeller Foundation of New York commissioned LTR to ‘make a survey of the present status of studies in genetics and heredity with special reference to their application to problems in human physiology and pathology.’ More than 100 documents regarding the progression and results of this survey are held in the Rockefeller Archive in Sleepy Hollow, New York. A selection of samples follow below.
Unfortunately, no copy of this Report has yet been found, even in the Rockefeller Archives. After the surrender of Hong Kong in 1941, LTR himself witnessed the looting at the school of Physiology at Hong Kong University, where the Japanese troops, under the orders of an officer, smashed open the drawers and lockers and carried away the contents.
